December 15th - World Immunization Day
World Immunization Day is primarily established to eradicate poliomyelitis.
Polio (also known as poliomyelitis) is one of the few diseases that can be eradicated, mainly because humans are the only carriers of the poliovirus, there are effective vaccines available, and immunity can persist throughout life.
The World Health Organization recommends four major strategies for eradicating poliomyelitis, including routine immunization, mass movements, monitoring, and sweeping vaccination. The most prominent one is the mass movement form adopted to strengthen immunization - National Immunization Day.
