May 31st World No Tobacco Day
May 31, 2024 is the 37th World No Tobacco Day. The theme of this year's promotion is "Protecting teenagers from the interference of tobacco industry". Starting from 1989, World No Tobacco Day was changed to May 31st every year because the next day is International Children's Day, hoping that the next generation will be free from the harm of tobacco.
Tobacco dependence is a chronic disease, and the harm caused by tobacco is one of the most serious public health problems in the world. Smoking and secondhand smoke pose a serious threat to human health. In the "List of Highly Toxic Substances" released by the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, nicotine is also classified as an A-level toxic substance, with the code A2045; If administered intravenously, 50 milligrams (mg) of nicotine is enough to take the life of an adult. Undoubtedly, achieving a smoke-free world requires a consensus among humanity on the fact that smoking has no benefits and that tobacco is a drug.
